Overview:

The Pension Finder was a strategic initiative to enhance Wealthify’s pension offering by creating a streamlined, user-friendly mobile journey that helps customers locate and transfer lost pensions.

Many users have pensions spread across multiple providers and struggle to track them down, leading to confusion, disengagement, and missed retirement savings. The goal was to simplify this process, improve engagement, and increase successful pension transfers.

The feature was successfully launched in December 2025, following extensive cross-functional collaboration and iterative testing.

My Role:

As the Product Designer on this project, I led the end-to-end design of the Pension Finder experience across iOS and Android.

I was responsible for:

  • Defining the user journey from discovery through to delivery
  • Conducting competitor analysis and independent research
  • Translating complex pension processes into simple, intuitive flows
  • Designing wireframes, high-fidelity UI, and interactive prototypes
  • Collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, and Compliance teams
  • Running iterative testing and incorporating stakeholder feedback
  • Using AI tools to explore flows, generate ideas, and accelerate early-stage prototyping

The Problem:

Many individuals have lost or forgotten pensions due to changing jobs or lack of awareness.

Locating these pensions is often:

  • Time-consuming
  • Confusing
  • Dependent on incomplete information

This creates a major barrier for users trying to take control of their financial future.

The Challenge:

Designing this experience required balancing simplicity with complexity:

  • Users often lack key pension details
  • Financial journeys require high levels of trust and clarity
  • Multi-step flows increase risk of drop-off
  • Regulatory and compliance requirements limit flexibility

The challenge was to reduce friction while maintaining transparency and accuracy.

Approach:

The project began with market and competitor analysis to benchmark best practices and identify opportunities to differentiate.

This was followed by:

  • User research and usability testing to understand behaviours and pain points
  • Mapping end-to-end journeys to identify friction points
  • Using AI-assisted tools to rapidly explore solution directions and refine user flows
  • Iterating on designs through continuous feedback from stakeholders and users
  • Close collaboration with Product, Engineering, Data and Compliance to ensure feasibility and alignment with business goals
Solution:

The Pension Finder allows users to:

  1. Search for lost pensions
    Using employer or provider details
  2. Review and decide
    Choose whether to transfer pensions into Wealthify
  3. Consolidate pensions
    Manage all pensions in one place with minimal effort

The final experience simplifies a traditionally complex process into a clear, guided mobile journey.
