Overview:

Tiny Rebel, an award-winning brewery based in South Wales, challenged our cohort at Alacrity to design a new mobile experience that could support their pubs during and after COVID.

With physical venues restricted, the goal was to create a digital product that allowed customers to order food and drinks for delivery or table service, while improving on limitations in their existing app.

My Role:

Product Designer (Alacrity Programme, 2020)

I worked as part of a small team to design the end-to-end mobile experience.

My responsibilities included:

  • Contributing to product and UX direction
  • Designing user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity screens
  • Creating custom UI elements and hand-drawn icons aligned to the brand
  • Collaborating with teammates to iterate on concepts and refine the experience
Tools:
  • Adobe XD
  • Illustrator
  • Pro-Create (iPad)
The Problem:

During COVID, hospitality businesses faced significant challenges:

  • Customers were unable to visit venues
  • Existing ordering systems were limited or difficult to use
  • Businesses needed new ways to generate revenue
  • The in-venue experience (ordering at tables) also needed to adapt

Tiny Rebel required a solution that worked both during restrictions and in a post-COVID environment.

The challenge:
  • Designing a flexible experience that worked for both delivery and in-venue ordering
  • Supporting multiple venues within a single product
  • Creating a simple, intuitive ordering flow under time-sensitive conditions
  • Aligning the experience with Tiny Rebel’s strong brand identity

Approach:
  • Analysed existing food and drink ordering apps to identify best practices
  • Explored how users interact with ordering systems in both home and venue contexts
  • Mapped user journeys across discovery, ordering, and payment
  • Iterated on concepts as a team to refine usability and flow
Solution:

The final concept allowed users to:

  • Access the app via download or QR code
  • Browse nearby venues or select from a list
  • Order food and drinks for delivery or table service
  • Pay seamlessly within the app
  • Leave feedback after their experience

The solution provided a flexible, user-friendly ordering experience that supported both immediate needs during COVID and longer-term use in pubs.

Impact:
  • Delivered a scalable concept for multi-venue ordering
  • Addressed key challenges faced by hospitality businesses during COVID
  • Improved accessibility and ease of ordering for users
  • Demonstrated strong visual design and brand alignment
My Design process:
  • Competitor and market research
  • User journey mapping
  • Wireframing and concept exploration
  • High-fidelity UI design
  • Iteration through team feedback
Product:

The “Raise Your Glass” concept is a mobile-first platform designed to support both delivery and in-venue ordering.

Users can:

  • Discover and select venues based on location
  • Access menus and place orders easily
  • Choose between delivery or table service
  • Pay securely within the app
  • Provide feedback on their experience

The product was designed to scale beyond a single brand, supporting multiple independent venues within one ecosystem.
